Spiny Babbler, Kande Bhyakur in Nepali, is an endemic bird of Nepal, so far found only in Nepal. This is the bird of the dense scrubs in the middle hills of Nepal. We are lucky to have this bird around the Shivapuri national park and in this area of Haibung actually around the resort.

This area is wonderful for bird life, over looking the spectacular Himalayan views, that can be enjoyed from the comfort of Prakriti Organic Resort in Haibung, located right next to wonderful biodiversity hotpots of the country- Shivapuri National parks. This “Spiny Babbler Trail” explores the area below and around the Resorts. This area is
not just important for the Spiny Babbler for numerous species of birds that are also very rare and endangered birds. Seeing well over 50-60 species of birds or even more is a great reward of birding, within few hours of walking around.

06:30 Am: Wake up and gather for early morning tea with sunrise

07:00 Am – 11:00 Am: Start birding and explore the area around and below till Hile Bhanjyang and back to Resort

The birds that are usually seen includes- Black Eagle, Himalayan Bulbul, Fire-tailed Sun-bird, Fire-breasted and Yellow-bellied Flower-pecker, Long-tailed Minivet, Yellow- breasted Green Finch,Golden Bush Robin, Yellow billed Blue Magpie, Spiny Babbler, Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Black-chined Babbler, Himalayan Black-lored and

Green-backed Tit, Grey-headed Warbler, Whistler’s Warbler, Blue Whistling Thrush and many.

11am-11.30am: Return to Resorts and finish your morning birding– best time for birding and relax

The birding time can be different in different season. In winter its usually much later in compared to summer season as the day breaks early. Morning till 11am are the best time to watch and explore the birds, mainly in summer and spring though there will be always some birds to see for the whole day.

Please bring along:

1. A pair of Binocular Most important
2. Also bring if you have Field guide book of “Birds of Nepal” with note book and pen if you wish to note down the sighting, though the list of the birds seen or recorded will be also provided later.
3. Camera would be also good to bring if you would like to capture the moment and birds during the walk as you never know what birds may come across.

Dress Code other code of conduct:

1. Please use/wear natural color clothing that blends the surrounding well.
2. Please avoid wearing flashy and colorful clothes as that can easily distracts the
3. birds and wildlife and will impact our sighting not well.
4. Keep your voice low as much as possible, wait and see.
5. Wait and keep distance and scare them off just because you want to see or must see!
6. Stick to the rules and norms of the park and the community or area
7. Please do not feed or leaver anything in nature that is garbage in nature.
