Welcome to Prakriti Resort and Organic Farm

A Regenerative Retreat in the Heart of Shivapuri National Park

Nestled at an elevation of approximately 2,100 metres in the peaceful Himalayan foothills near Kathmandu, and surrounded by forests, organic farmland, traditional villages, and panoramic mountain landscapes, Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm offers a unique hospitality experience rooted in regenerative tourism, wellness, and conscious living. Created with a vision to reconnect people with nature and community, Prakriti is more than a resort — it is a living example of how tourism can positively contribute to the environment, local culture, and future generations.

Located close to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, the resort combines authentic Himalayan tranquility with meaningful travel experiences. Guests wake up to fresh mountain air, breathtaking sunrise views, and sweeping visibility of the Himalayan panorama stretching across the horizon. The peaceful natural setting, free from urban congestion and excessive light pollution, also offers remarkably clear night skies where stars and celestial bodies can often be observed in striking clarity, creating a rare sense of connection with nature and the universe.

Prakriti is surrounded by a rich diversity of natural, cultural, and community-based experiences. Nearby natural attractions include the crystal-clear Nagmati River, the serene Dhaap Lake, hidden waterfalls, forest trails, and the pristine landscapes leading toward Shivapuri Peak. Guests can also explore surrounding village farms and local enterprises such as Everest Tea Estate, Himalayan trout fish farms, traditional goat farms, and local cheese-making facilities that reflect the region’s agricultural heritage and rural lifestyle.

The surrounding region is equally rich in culture, spirituality, and history. Visitors have the opportunity to discover the ancient town of Sankhu, the sacred Bajrayogini Temple, the spiritually significant Milarepa caves, the revered Manichud pond, Sundari Mai Temple, and traditional Gurung and Tamang settlements that continue to preserve their heritage, architecture, traditions, and way of life. These experiences offer travelers a deeper understanding of Nepal beyond conventional tourism routes.

Far from crowded tourism corridors, Prakriti provides a space where visitors can slow down, reflect, and experience Nepal in a more genuine and mindful way. At the heart of Prakriti lies a strong commitment to regenerative hospitality — a philosophy that goes beyond sustainability by actively restoring and nurturing the surrounding ecosystem and communities. Much of the food served at the resort is sourced directly from its own organic farm and nearby villages, creating a true farm-to-table experience that supports local livelihoods while promoting healthy and conscious living.

Born from a vision following the Nepal earthquake, Prakriti was built with purpose, resilience, and long-term responsibility toward people and the planet. Today, the resort continues to evolve as a next-generation model for regenerative tourism in Nepal, integrating sustainability, wellness, community engagement, and meaningful hospitality into every aspect of the guest experience. Whether seeking rest, inspiration, wellness, or deeper cultural connection, travelers at Prakriti discover a place where luxury is defined not by excess, but by authenticity, simplicity, nature, and purpose.

The Founder’s Journey
From Vision to Regeneration: The Story Behind Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm
In the hills north of Kathmandu, where the forests of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park meet terraced farmland and the distant Himalayas rise above the valley, stands a place created from a deeply personal vision — Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm.
Behind this vision is Nepali entrepreneur and regenerative tourism advocate Arun Shrestha.
His journey toward creating Prakriti was not driven simply by business ambition. It was shaped by a deeper realization about the future of tourism, nature, and humanity.
Awakening to a Different Kind of Tourism
For many years, Arun observed the rapid growth of tourism across Nepal. While tourism brought economic opportunities, he also noticed something troubling: landscapes were being consumed, traditions were fading, and natural ecosystems were under increasing pressure.
The question that began to guide his thinking was simple yet profound:
Can tourism exist in harmony with nature rather than exploiting it?
This question became the seed of an idea that would eventually grow into Prakriti Resort.
Planting the First Seeds
The early vision was connected to an initiative that promoted organic farming and ecological awareness in rural Nepal. Arun believed that agriculture and tourism could support each other if both were guided by respect for the land.
The concept was to create a place where visitors could experience:
•organic farming
•natural living
•rural culture
•ecological awareness
Not as a commercial attraction, but as a living experience of harmony between humans and nature.
When Disaster Became a Turning Point
In 2015, Nepal experienced one of the most devastating disasters in its modern history — the 2015 Nepal earthquake.
The earthquake destroyed infrastructure across the country and disrupted many projects, including early efforts connected to Arun’s vision.
For many people, such a moment would have meant abandoning the dream.
For Arun, it became a moment of reflection.
He realized that rebuilding Nepal’s tourism industry after the disaster required a new approach — one that was stronger, more resilient, and deeply connected to the land.
The Birth of Prakriti
Out of this determination emerged Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm.
Located in a pristine hill landscape overlooking the deep Valley, the resort was designed as more than a hotel. It was conceived as a living ecosystem where hospitality, agriculture, ecology, and learning could coexist.
The name “Prakriti,” meaning Nature, reflects the core philosophy of the project.
Every element of the resort was developed with intention:
•organic farms that nourish both soil and guests
•architecture inspired by local traditions
•renewable energy and responsible resource use
•spaces designed for reflection, learning, and connection with nature
Instead of imposing development on the land, the vision was to allow the landscape to guide the design.
Moving Beyond Sustainability
As the resort evolved, Arun’s thinking expanded beyond sustainability.
He began to advocate for regenerative tourism — a philosophy where tourism actively restores ecosystems and strengthens communities rather than simply minimizing harm.
Under this approach, tourism should:
•regenerate soil and biodiversity
•empower local communities
•inspire ecological awareness among travelers
•create deeper connections between humans and the Earth
Prakriti Resort gradually became a living example of this philosophy in practice.
International Recognition
The commitment to responsible tourism eventually gained international recognition when Prakriti Resort achieved certification from Travelife.
The certification acknowledged the resort’s alignment with global sustainability standards and positioned it among emerging examples of regenerative tourism in Nepal.
A Vision for the Future
Today, the journey continues with the participation of the next generation, including Arun’s daughter, Shreeyani Shrestha.
Her involvement brings new perspectives and international engagement, ensuring that the vision continues to evolve while staying rooted in its original philosophy.
Together, they are working to develop Prakriti Resort not only as a destination but as a center for learning, reflection, and regenerative tourism practices.
More Than a Resort
For Arun Shrestha, Prakriti Resort was never meant to be just a hospitality business.
It is a living demonstration of a deeper idea:
Tourism can become a force for healing the Earth.
Through organic farming, ecological design, and meaningful guest experiences, Prakriti seeks to remind visitors that humans are not separate from nature — they are part of it.
And when people reconnect with nature, something powerful begins to change.
