Dhaap Pokhari: A Journey Where Nature Meets Purpose
Just 2 km from the resort, Dhaap Pokhari blends ecological history with modern conservation. Once a thriving wetland famous for birds and wildlife, it has been transformed into a reservoir that helps restore the sacred Bagmati River.
The 24-meter-high dam stores about 880,000 cubic meters of water, releasing up to 400 liters per second during the dry season. This landmark project, led by the High Powered Committee for the Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization and supported by the Asian Development Bank, demonstrates Nepal’s commitment to environmental regeneration and sustainable water management.
The Hike:
A gentle 2 km trail through forested paths of Shivapuri National Park, with a short uphill climb of 15 minutes, leads to the reservoir. Early mornings are ideal, with birdsong and wildlife sightings enhancing the serene experience.
Highlights:
•Scenic forest trail through protected park areas
•Birdwatching and wildlife spotting opportunities
•Insight into a significant environmental restoration project
•Peaceful reservoir views framed by the Himalayan foothills
Chisapani & Local Cheese Experience
A scenic 5 km hike from the resort takes you to Chisapani, a charming hill station and gateway to trekking routes toward Kakani, Nagarkot, Langtang, and Helambu. Passing through Dhaap Pokhari, the mostly flat terrain makes for a comfortable 3-hour round hike.
Chisapani offers panoramic Himalayan views, from the Annapurna range in the west to the Everest region in the east. The village is also home to a local cheese factory, where guests can taste fresh, organic cheese made in the traditional way.
Nagmati River: A Forest Escape
About an hour’s hike from the resort, the trail to Nagmati River descends through ancient oak forests and vibrant rhododendron groves. Fed by Dhaap Pokhari, the river flows crystal clear, creating a refreshing post-breakfast hike with the soothing sound of running water and birdsong.
The return hike takes roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes, with the option to continue further to Mulkharka Village, an additional hour from the river.
Mulkharka Village: Life Within the Forest
Nestled within Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, Mulkharka Village is home to around 200 households. Agriculture forms the backbone of daily life, while some families operate tea houses and lodges for trekkers. Visiting the village offers a rich cultural experience, blending natural beauty with authentic local livelihoods.
Trout Fish Farm: Fresh Catch Experience
Located about one hour downhill from the resort (and 1 hour 15 minutes uphill return), the Trout Fish Farm is a popular excursion. Guests can try catching trout with traditional nets and enjoy it grilled at the farm or back at the resort. The trail also passes through Gurung villages and a pheasant farm, offering a deeper connection to rural life.

Once a favorite getaway for Kathmandu residents, it is perfect for picnics, photography, and short retreats. Visitors can explore the garden with prior permission.
