Organic Strawberry Farming at Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm, Nepal

Every winter, something special happens at Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm. Our quiet terraces begin to turn red with ripe strawberries, and the farm comes alive with the aroma of fruit, soil, and fresh mountain air.
Located in the Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park buffer zone near Kathmandu, Prakriti was created as a space where nature, farming, and mindful tourism come together. Strawberry farming became part of that journey not as a business idea, but as a way to grow healthy food and share real farm life with our guests.
This is the story of how strawberries found a home at Prakriti.

How Strawberry Farming Started at Prakriti
Prakriti began as an organic farm and retreat space with one simple goal: to care for the land while offering people a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature.
Strawberries came into the picture when we started researching high-value crops that would:
- Grow well in our cool hill climate
- Fit our organic and regenerative methods
- Be loved by visitors and families
We started small — a few beds, a few plants — just enough to test how strawberries would respond to our soil, water, and care. Our initial plants were sourced from Kakani, a strawberry hub near Kathmandu.
Our journey began three years ago, and now strawberries have become a cherished part of our landscape. They did more than respond — they thrived. What began as an experiment has now become one of the most loved parts of the Prakriti winter season.

How Much We Plant and When We Harvest
Each year, we plant between 3,000–4,000 strawberry plants across our terraced organic fields. The exact number varies depending on weather and soil conditions, but our approach remains the same: healthy soil first, fruit second.
Strawberries remain in the ground for about eight months, with peak sweetness in:
- January
- February
- March
During these months, guests staying at Prakriti can:
- Walk through the strawberry beds
- Pick ripe strawberries by hand
- Enjoy them fresh or in desserts, breakfasts, and drinks
For many visitors, this becomes their favorite farm memory.

Why We Grow Strawberries Organically
At Prakriti, we avoid chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Our strawberries are nurtured with:
- Compost made on the farm
- Mulching for moisture and soil health
- Natural pest control methods
- Careful watering
This organic approach protects:
- The soil
- The water
- The people who eat the fruit
Strawberries absorb chemicals easily, which makes organic cultivation even more important. Eating a Prakriti strawberry means tasting fruit grown in living soil — not chemicals.

Health Benefits of Organic Strawberries
Strawberries are not only delicious but also one of the healthiest fruits you can enjoy. They are rich in:
- Vitamin C – supports immunity
- Antioxidants – protect the body
- Fiber – aids digestion
- Natural energy – clean and light
Because our strawberries are grown organically, they are free from harmful residues and safe for children and families. Good food should not just fill you; it should nourish you.
